ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of Safdar Irfan, who is accused of uploading photographs of his former wife on social media, with the bench making strong observations about the seriousness of the allegations during the hearing.

The case was heard by a three-member bench comprising Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, Justice Shakeel Ahmed and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim.

During the proceedings, Justice Hashim Kakar questioned whether the accused had the courage to have the FIR registered against him read out publicly.

Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim observed that the photographs allegedly shared online belonged to the accused’s own wife, while Justice Shakeel Ahmed remarked that the accused had committed a highly immoral act after his wife sought a divorce.

Counsel for the accused informed the court that the complainant was currently residing in Dubai and that his client had already spent six months in custody.

Justice Hashim Kakar responded that the accused’s actions had left the woman unable to continue living in the country.

“What good deed has he done? This man should remain in custody for the rest of his life,” the judge observed during the hearing.

The bench further remarked that a woman’s dignity must be protected and that the accused had violated the sanctity of a sacred relationship.

The court also noted that the accused’s mobile phone had already been recovered as evidence during the investigation.

After hearing the arguments, the Supreme Court ruled that the nature of the allegations did not justify the grant of bail and dismissed the application. Following the decision, defence counsel withdrew the case.
