PESHAWAR: At least seven people were killed and 33 others injured in rain, lightning and strong wind-related incidents across parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the past 24 hours, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The deceased included two children, four men and one woman, while the incidents were reported from the districts of Bannu, Shangla and Mansehra.
According to a damage assessment report issued by the PDMA, most casualties occurred after walls and roofs of houses collapsed due to strong winds and heavy rainfall that swept through different parts of the province.
The latest fatalities come only days after similar weather-related incidents claimed two lives and left 31 people injured across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa earlier this month.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast further rainfall in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, while most other parts of the country are expected to experience hot and dry weather.
In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the PDMA issued an alert on Saturday for Swat, Upper Dir, Kohistan, Buner and several other districts, warning that rising temperatures after June 15 could accelerate snowmelt and increase the risk of flash flooding in vulnerable areas.
The authority has directed district administrations to remain on high alert, particularly in sensitive locations, and advised tourists and travellers to exercise caution during adverse weather conditions.
Residents have also been urged to avoid rivers, streams and other rain-fed areas during heavy rainfall due to the risk of flash floods and rising water levels.
The PDMA advised the public to contact its emergency helpline, 1700, in case of any weather-related emergency as authorities continue to monitor the evolving situation across the province.
