WEB DESK: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon on Monday accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of resorting to “dirty tactics” after allegedly sensing defeat in the first phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections being held in Mirpur.

Memon claimed that the PML-N was attempting to disturb the election environment in Kashmir and create unrest due to fears of losing public support. He urged the party leadership to control its workers, alleging that some supporters were using pressure tactics and intimidation to influence the electoral process.

The PPP leader said elections could not be won or altered through force, coercion or unfair means, stressing that the people’s mandate should be respected.

Memon also alleged that a PPP worker was killed by PML-N workers, claiming the incident reflected what he described as a “fascist approach”. He called for accountability and urged authorities to ensure a peaceful environment during the electoral process.

Criticising the PML-N’s campaign strategy, Memon alleged that the party believed voters could be influenced through incentives and accused it of seeking what he termed a “charity mandate” in Kashmir, similar to 2014.

He also criticised the Election Commission over what he described as a lack of action against alleged violations of the election code of conduct, including claims of weapons being displayed by PML-N candidates.

Memon said the people of Kashmir were politically aware and peace-loving, adding that attempts to disrupt the electoral atmosphere would not be allowed to succeed.
