ISLAMABAD: Petroleum prices in Pakistan continued to rise on the third consecutive day, with petrol becoming Rs21.88 and diesel Rs14.62 per litre more expensive over the three-day period.

The Petroleum Division had increased the price of petrol by Rs12.90 and High Speed Diesel (HSD) by Rs3.72 per litre on September 8.

On September 9, petrol prices were raised by another Rs5.58 per litre, while diesel became Rs4.18 per litre more expensive.

For September 10, the government increased the price of petrol by a further Rs3.40 per litre and diesel by Rs6.72 per litre.

Following the latest increase, petrol will now cost Rs367.75 per litre, while the new price of diesel has been fixed at Rs392.67 per litre.

The continuous increase in petroleum prices has also prompted goods transporters across the country to announce an increase in freight charges.

Transporters said the repeated increase in fuel prices had significantly raised their operating costs, making a revision in freight rates unavoidable.

The latest fuel price hike is expected to increase financial pressure on consumers, transporters and businesses, while higher transportation costs could also affect the prices of goods and essential commodities.

The repeated increases have also raised concerns among traders and transporters over the impact of rising fuel costs on business activity and household budgets.
