Kuwait airport operations suspended after missile and drone attack damages Terminal 1

Airport

WEB DESK: Kuwait International Airport’s Terminal 1 sustained extensive damage after an overnight barrage of missiles and drones reportedly struck the facility, forcing authorities to suspend all commercial flight operations indefinitely.

According to reports, several airport employees and personnel were injured in the attack, although officials have not yet confirmed the full extent of casualties.

Kuwaiti authorities said the Terminal 1 passenger building was directly hit, causing significant damage to airport infrastructure. Emergency teams were deployed to the site as thick smoke rose from the affected areas and firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

The General Directorate of Civil Aviation announced the suspension of all commercial flights, while incoming aircraft were redirected to alternative airports across the region.

Passengers were advised to remain in contact with their respective airlines for the latest travel updates as airport operations remain disrupted.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following recent military exchanges involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

Kuwait condemned the attack, describing it as a violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

While no immediate statement was issued by Iranian authorities regarding the incident, regional sources attributed the attack to Tehran’s ongoing response to developments in the wider regional conflict.

Officials said Kuwaiti air defence systems intercepted several incoming projectiles, but direct impacts and falling debris still caused substantial damage to civilian aviation facilities.

Investigations into the attack and assessments of the damage are ongoing.
