ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the recovery of the remaining amount in a multi-million-rupee fraud case involving a visually impaired woman, directing the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to seize two vehicles belonging to the convicted bank manager.

The case was heard by a division bench comprising Justice Azam Khan and Justice Inam Amin Minhas, which directed the FIA to recover the two vehicles of convicted bank manager Ramiz Javaid within one week and submit a compliance report.

During the hearing, the victim, Darakhshan Mirza, appeared before the court and thanked the judges for ensuring justice in the case.

Assistant Attorney General Azmat Bashir Tarar informed the bench that Rs15.9 million had already been returned to the victim, while two additional cheques worth Rs2.8 million and Rs530,000 had also been received.

He said a total of Rs19.2 million had now been recovered, adding that the remaining amount would be recovered through the seizure of the convict’s two vehicles within a week.

Ramiz Javaid, who is serving a five-year prison sentence at Adiala Jail, was convicted of embezzling more than Rs20 million from the visually impaired woman.

The IHC had earlier upheld his conviction and ordered the full recovery of the defrauded amount after the victim filed a petition over the non-recovery of the remaining funds.

The court sought a progress report from the FIA and adjourned further proceedings until July 7.
