England

KANSAS CITY: England goalkeeper Dean Henderson said the team’s stolen training equipment, including his boots, had been recovered after a theft ahead of the squad’s arrival at its World Cup training base.

The incident occurred as equipment was being transported from England’s training camp in Florida to Kansas City. Earlier, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas confirmed that local, state and federal authorities were investigating the theft.

Most of the stolen items have since been recovered.

Speaking after England’s first training session at Swope Soccer Village on Saturday, Henderson said he had initially lost his boots.

“I think I did, but I got them back, so it’s all good,” the Crystal Palace F.C. goalkeeper said.

“I think they got everything back, so it’s all good.”

Defender Dan Burn also played down the incident.

“Obviously it was to do with the police, so I don’t know how much people know about it. We didn’t know a lot about it, but I’ve got all my kit and all my boots,” he said.

Managed by Thomas Tuchel, England held a light training session in front of fans on Saturday as preparations continued for their World Cup campaign.

England will begin their tournament against Croatia on Wednesday before facing Ghana and Panama in Group L.

Meanwhile, US prosecutors charged two men in connection with the theft of equipment valued at approximately $18,000.

According to the office of Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson, Mustafa Salik and Erfan Kamal have each been charged with one count of receiving stolen property.

Under Missouri law, the offence carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years.

“Jackson County will not tolerate any criminal activity that targets World Cup visitors, including the international teams that have travelled here to compete,” Johnson said, thanking the Kansas City Police Department and prosecutors for their swift response.
