RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Syed Asim Munir held a series of high-level meetings with Iran’s civil and military leadership during his official visit to Iran, resulting in “encouraging progress towards a final understanding”, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the ISPR said Field Marshal Munir concluded a short but highly productive visit focused on ongoing mediation efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions and promoting constructive engagement following recent conflict in the Middle East.
During the visit, the field marshal met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
According to the military’s statement, discussions focused on accelerating the consultative process aimed at supporting peace, regional stability and achieving a conclusive agreement.
The ISPR said the meetings were conducted in a “positive and constructive environment” and contributed significantly to the broader mediation process.
It added that intensive negotiations over the past 24 hours had produced encouraging progress towards a final understanding between the concerned parties.
Field Marshal Munir arrived in Tehran on Friday as Pakistan intensified efforts to facilitate dialogue between the United States and Iran following months of conflict triggered by joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran earlier this year.
Pakistan has emerged as a key diplomatic intermediary in the crisis and previously helped broker a two-week ceasefire on April 8 after weeks of regional fighting.
Amid Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said there was a possibility that Tehran could accept a peace agreement soon, expressing hope for positive developments within days.
Iranian officials also indicated that discussions mediated by Pakistan were moving towards finalising a memorandum of understanding with Washington.
The ISPR further said the Iranian leadership appreciated Pakistan’s “sincere and constructive” role in facilitating dialogue and supporting peaceful solutions to regional disputes.
Upon arrival in Tehran, Field Marshal Munir was received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni along with senior Iranian civil and military officials.
