ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved plans to develop a 350-acre wildlife safari park in Islamabad, aiming to create an international-standard ecotourism destination in the federal capital.
According to the CDA, the safari park will be established in the Malpur Forestry Park area along Murree Road near Bhara Kahu. The authority said the project’s design has been completed and construction will be carried out without damaging the environment or disturbing the area’s natural forests.
The proposed park will accommodate 3,605 animals in natural-style habitats and will be divided into 10 safari and wildlife sanctuary zones.
Under the plan, Pakistan’s largest ungulate safari zone will be developed over 1,000 kanals, while separate enclosures will be created for lions, tigers, bears and hyenas as part of a dedicated big cat zone.
The project also includes specialised sanctuaries for crocodiles, rhinoceroses, elephants and hippopotamuses, along with a modern wildlife care complex equipped with veterinary and quarantine facilities for animal treatment and conservation.
Visitors will have access to several attractions, including a digital museum, a one-kilometre forest canopy walk, a two-kilometre chairlift, a koi fish pond, a natural lake and a bridge walk.
The safari park will also feature a jungle-themed play area and zipline for children, while its central area will include a safari village, lodges and recreational facilities.
A dedicated food street connected directly to Murree Road is also planned, with multiple restaurants to serve visitors.
The CDA said the project is expected to transform Islamabad into a major destination for wildlife tourism and ecotourism upon completion.
