SYLHET: Bangladesh national cricket team produced a dominant performance to complete a 2–0 Test series whitewash over Pakistan national cricket team, sealing a 78-run victory in the second Test in Sylhet.
Chasing a challenging target of 437, Pakistan were bowled out for 359 on the final day, falling short despite a fighting 94 from Mohammad Rizwan.
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam was the standout performer, taking six wickets in the match and finishing with figures of 9 for 187. His spell proved decisive in breaking Pakistan’s lower-order resistance.
Fast bowler Shoriful Islam also played a key role, dismissing Rizwan at a crucial moment that ended Pakistan’s realistic hopes of completing the chase.
Pakistan had resumed the final day needing 121 runs with three wickets in hand. A determined partnership between Rizwan and Sajid Khan briefly raised hopes, but Bangladesh’s spin attack maintained constant pressure to close out the match.
Earlier in the match, Bangladesh had set up victory with strong batting displays. Litton Das scored 126 in the first innings, while Mushfiqur Rahim’s 137 anchored the second innings total of 390, giving the hosts a commanding lead.
Pakistan’s first innings had already been restricted to 232, with Taijul Islam also claiming three wickets in that innings.
The result completed Bangladesh’s first-ever Test series win over Pakistan at home and followed their earlier 2–0 sweep in Pakistan in 2024, marking a significant rise in their red-ball performance.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood admitted his side fell short in key moments, saying inconsistent execution across innings cost them the match.
The defeat is expected to intensify scrutiny on Pakistan’s Test cricket performance, while Bangladesh will take confidence from a landmark series victory that strengthens their standing in home conditions.
