ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Friday announced the official schedule for the upcoming general elections, confirming that polling across the region will be held on July 27.

With the issuance of the election schedule, political and electoral activities are expected to formally commence, including the submission of nomination papers and the launch of election campaigns by political parties.

The Election Commission said the announcement marked the beginning of the complete electoral process and would enable all procedural requirements to be carried out ahead of polling day.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to holding free, fair, transparent and impartial elections and said all necessary arrangements were being finalised in coordination with relevant institutions.

Officials said consultations with administrative authorities and security agencies were continuing to ensure the smooth conduct of the polls, while the process for appointing returning officers (ROs) was expected to begin shortly.

According to the Election Commission, special emphasis is being placed on maintaining transparency and credibility throughout the electoral process.

Sources said comprehensive security arrangements were also under consideration, including the possible deployment of Pakistan Army personnel alongside Rangers and other law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and order during the elections.

The polls will be conducted under strict security supervision to ensure a peaceful voting process across all constituencies.

The Election Commission said more than 3.4 million registered voters would be eligible to cast their ballots in the upcoming elections.

It also confirmed that over 500,000 new voters had recently been added to the electoral rolls, significantly expanding the electorate.

Officials added that coordination and liaison mechanisms at the district and administrative levels had been strengthened to facilitate effective election management.

With the election schedule now officially announced, political activity is expected to gain momentum across Azad Jammu and Kashmir ahead of what is anticipated to be a closely contested electoral process.
