Bannu

BANNU: A major joint operation by the security forces, police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Bannu has resulted in the killing of 16 terrorists, including two key militant commanders, according to security sources.

The operation was conducted in the Miryan area on reports of militant presence, where intense engagement took place between law enforcement personnel and armed militants.

Security sources said among those killed were two high-profile commanders identified as Zamri Noor and Afghan militant leader Abdullah Saeed.

Authorities said the militants were involved in spreading fear in the region and were linked to multiple acts of violence against security forces and civilians.

During the operation, several militant hideouts were also destroyed in what officials described as a difficult and complex counterterrorism engagement.

Two police personnel were martyred during the exchange of fire, identified as Constable Waheedullah Khan and Constable Noorullah Khan.

Their funeral prayers were held with official honours at Police Lines Bannu, attended by senior civil and military officials, local elders and a large number of citizens.

Security sources said security forces continue to conduct joint operations with law enforcement agencies to eliminate militant networks in the region.

They added that operations against militants will continue until the complete elimination of terrorist groups operating in the area.

Officials reaffirmed that coordinated counterterrorism efforts remain ongoing across the country under the national security framework aimed at restoring long-term peace and stability.
