MUMBAI: West Indies comfortably chased down a 134-run target to defeat Nepal and qualify for the Super Eights stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing 134, the Caribbean side made light work of the total, reaching the target with just one wicket down in 15.2 overs, powered by an unbeaten partnership between captain Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer.
The chase began with openers Brandon King and Hope adding 43 runs. King struck 22 off 17 balls, including four boundaries, before being dismissed.
Hetmyer then joined Hope, and the duo ensured there were no further setbacks. Hope remained unbeaten on 61 off 44 balls, registering his 10th T20I fifty with five fours and three sixes. Hetmyer provided strong support with 46 off 32 deliveries, hitting four boundaries and two sixes.
Earlier, Nepal’s innings faltered early after losing Kushal Bhurtel for just one run in the opening over to Akeal Hosein. Nepal continued to struggle as Rohit Paudel and Aasif Shaikh fell cheaply, leaving them reeling at 17-3.
Jason Holder inflicted further damage, removing Aarif Sheikh, while Shamar Joseph and Roston Chase also struck as Nepal slumped to 73-6 in the 15th over.

A late recovery was led by Dipendra Singh Airee and Sompal Kami, who added 54 runs for the seventh wicket. Airee scored a fighting 58 off 47 balls, including three fours and three sixes, bringing up a valuable fifty. Kami remained unbeaten on 26 off 15 balls with four boundaries, helping Nepal post 133-8.
Holder starred with the ball for West Indies, claiming 4/27 in four overs, while Chase, Joseph, Forde and Hosein picked up one wicket each.
With this win, West Indies confirmed their place in the Super Eights stage, while Nepal’s campaign suffered a major setback.
