ISLAMABAD: At the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will undertake a two-day official visit to Pakistan on February 5-6, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
The Foreign Office said the visit underscores growing bilateral ties between the two countries, which share a long history, faith, and common aspirations for peace and prosperity in Central and South Asia.
During the visit, President Mirziyoyev, accompanied by a high-level delegation of ministers and business leaders, will meet President Asif Ali Zardari, hold delegation-level talks with PM Shehbaz Sharif, and address the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum.
“Discussions will focus on reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral relations and identifying new avenues to deepen cooperation across trade, energy, defence, education, people-to-people exchange, and regional connectivity,” the Foreign Office said.
This will be President Mirziyoyev’s second visit to Pakistan, reflecting the upward trajectory of relations between the two countries. Last February, during PM Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Tashkent, both nations pledged to raise bilateral trade from $400 million to $2 billion and explored cooperation in investment, tourism, and connectivity projects.
Both leaders also highlighted the Trans-Afghan Railway project, designed to link Central Asia with South Asia. PM Shehbaz Sharif described the initiative as a “game changer” for regional trade and connectivity, while expressing gratitude to Uzbekistan for its warm hospitality and reaffirming that investment and trade remain central to the growing partnership.
