ISLAMABAD: The First Committee of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly has adopted four resolutions tabled by Pakistan, reaffirming global recognition of Pakistan’s consistent leadership role in promoting disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security.
The First Committee deals with disarmament and international security-related matters. Two of Pakistan’s resolutions — on Regional Disarmament and on Confidence-Building Measures in the Regional and Sub-Regional Context — were adopted by consensus, reflecting broad international support.
Two other resolutions — on the Protection of Non-Nuclear Weapon States and on the Prevention of the Use of Nuclear Weapons — were adopted by an overwhelming majority.
Pakistan’s resolutions call for enhanced cooperation, transparency, and restraint among states to strengthen regional peace and security. The approval of these resolutions underscores the international community’s trust in Pakistan’s constructive approach toward promoting arms control and regional stability.
Additionally, the Committee also adopted Pakistan’s proposal on conventional arms control measures, further highlighting Islamabad’s commitment to comprehensive disarmament efforts.
For decades, Pakistan has championed global and regional initiatives aimed at reducing the risks of conflict and enhancing mutual confidence through dialogue and responsible state behavior.
The adoption of these resolutions marks a strong acknowledgment of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and its principled stance on arms control issues.
Pakistan reaffirmed its resolve to continue working with the United Nations and the international community to advance disarmament, promote regional cooperation, and ensure lasting peace and global security.
