UK unveils E-Visa for Pakistani Students and Workers

E-Visa

Islamabad: The British High Commission in Islamabad has announced the formal rollout of an e-visa system for Pakistani nationals applying under student and work visa categories, eliminating the need for a physical visa sticker in most cases.

In a statement, the commission said that the new e-visa system will enable visa holders to view their immigration status online, providing a secure, digital, and simplified experience.

“Millions are already using e-visas across different immigration routes,” said the statement. “Now, Pakistani students and skilled workers will also benefit from this transition to a more modern system.”

British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott said the move will ease travel and work procedures. “This change will make the visa process easier and more convenient for students and workers. They will now be able to keep their passports while their immigration status remains digitally accessible.”

The e-visa scheme currently applies to multiple visa categories, including students, skilled workers, global talent, health and care professionals, sportspersons, youth mobility participants, and creative workers.

According to the commission, e-visas do not alter immigration status or visa conditions and are linked to the holder’s UKVI account, allowing them to connect their travel documents directly.

However, dependent and visitor visa applicants will still require a physical visa sticker for now. The e-visa system will be gradually extended to other visa categories over time.
