Phalia witnessed a tragic day on Thursday as two people drowned in separate incidents after being swept away by the floodwaters of the River Chenab near Head Qadirabad.
According to rescue officials, the first incident occurred in the nearby village of Melo Kahna, Phalia where an elderly man identified as Aslam Gondal lost his life while attempting to cross an inundated area. Local residents managed to recover his body from the swirling waters before the arrival of rescue teams.
In another incident, a 34-year-old man, Shehzad, son of Falak Sher, and a resident of Bhikho village, drowned after being caught in the powerful flood currents. Police and Rescue 1122 teams conducted a search operation and eventually retrieved his body from the river.

Authorities have urged residents of low-lying villages to stay away from the floodwater and avoid unnecessary movement near the riverbanks. Meanwhile, police and rescue services remain on alert in case of further emergencies as the Chenab continues to experience high flood levels.
