Two children drown as Shahbazpur dyke collapses

GUJRAT – A major breach occurred in the Shahbazpur dyke on the River Chenab, allowing floodwaters to surge into nearby settlements. The incident left two children dead, while another was rescued.

According to eyewitnesses, 13-year-old Abdul Rauf and 12-year-old Samiullah, who were cousins, were swept away by the rushing waters. Locals managed to recover their bodies through self-help efforts, as rescue teams had not yet reached the site.

Residents of Shahbazpur said around 100 people remain trapped in the floodwaters, with villagers attempting to evacuate them to safer ground on their own.
