ISLAMABAD: Police on Sunday arrested a man who assaulted traffic policemen and caused chaos in the capital’s I-8 Markaz area after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

According to the Islamabad Capital Police, the incident occurred on Saturday night, when the suspect engaged in violent behaviour and attacked on-duty traffic officers, leading to panic among citizens and disrupting traffic in the busy commercial district.

A video circulating on social media shows the man arguing, abusing, and physically confronting traffic personnel. He was later seen fleeing the scene in his vehicle as bystanders filmed the altercation.

Suspect Detained, Vehicle Impounded

Following the video’s circulation, the police traced and arrested the suspect, who has since been detained at the I-9 Police Station. His vehicle was also impounded as part of the ongoing investigation, officials confirmed.

“Strict legal action is being taken against the individual involved in the incident,” police said in a statement, adding that no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands.

The viral clip triggered public outrage and calls for accountability, with many social media users urging authorities to ensure exemplary punishment.

Similar Case Reported in Karachi Last Year

A similar incident occurred last year in Karachi, where police arrested two suspects accused of assaulting officers during a confrontation in the city’s Korangi district. A case had been registered against them for attacking law enforcement personnel.
