ISLAMABAD: Trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan through the Torkham border remained suspended for the 11th consecutive day, sources confirmed.
According to sources, Pakistan is currently reviewing options to resume high-level trade activities with Afghanistan. Preparations to restore trade at both the Torkham and Chaman border crossings have already been completed.
Sources said Pakistan may grant permission for the resumption of cross-border trade at any time, as modern terminals at both crossings are now fully operational. The newly built terminals are equipped with comprehensive facilities for all types of trade-activities, including large-scale vehicle parking areas and a modern clearance system for exporters and importers.
Senior officials of Pakistan Customs and security agencies are stationed at both border points to oversee the situation.

The sources further disclosed that Pakistan has temporarily halted the processing of transit consignments until border operations normalize. The step was taken to prevent congestion at border stations and to ensure the safety of bonded goods.
The Torkham and Chaman crossing points have remained closed for all trade-activities since October 12 due to the prevailing security situation.
Authorities have also reinstalled modern scanners to expedite the clearance of goods, while separate lanes for vehicles and pedestrians have been established to ensure smooth operations once trade resumes.
