Global satellite internet provider Starlink is set to officially launch its services in Pakistan by the end of 2025, with credible sources suggesting that Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX and the world’s richest individual, is likely to attend the inauguration ceremony.
Sources close to the development confirm that Starlink has formally agreed to operate in full compliance with Pakistan’s legal and regulatory framework. The move marks a significant step forward in the country’s efforts to enhance digital infrastructure and expand access to high-speed internet.
The Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (PSARB) is currently in the final stages of drafting a comprehensive international satellite regulatory framework. Upon completion, Starlink will be granted formal registration, followed by a service license issued by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
Elon Musk’s potential attendance at the launch event is expected to draw global attention and elevate the visibility of Pakistan’s technological progress on the world stage, making the occasion even more significant and drawing interest from both local and international audiences.
In pursuit of a fair and inclusive digital ecosystem, the PSARB recently hosted a high-level stakeholder workshop at a local hotel. The session brought together key players from the satellite communications industry and was attended by Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja. Representatives from international tech giants, including Amazon, Shanghai Telecom, and OneWeb, were also present.
Several of these companies expressed interest in entering the Pakistani market, but Starlink has emerged as the first to formally submit its registration application under the forthcoming regulatory regime. This positions the company as a frontrunner in shaping the future of satellite internet services in Pakistan.
Once operational, Starlink is expected to revolutionize broadband accessibility across Pakistan, especially in underserved and remote regions. Its services are anticipated to drive economic growth, improve digital literacy, enhance e-governance, and support the country’s broader digitalization agenda.
