The latest assault comes months after two Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred and eight others injured in a terrorist attack on a checkpost in Upper Kurram in June.
Armed with heavy weapons, the attackers had crossed over from Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province. Lance Naik Saleem was killed on the spot, while another soldier later succumbed to injuries.
Local residents had responded to mosque loudspeaker calls to support security forces, which helped lead to the capture of one assailant. The detained militant revealed that their weapons had been supplied by the Taliban.
