MUZAFFARGARH: Police have registered a case against six men for allegedly gang-raping a woman in Mahmood Kot area of Muzaffargarh district after holding her two-year-old son at gunpoint, officials said on Wednesday.
According to the FIR lodged on the complaint of the victim’s husband, the suspects committed the assault inside her home on the night of July 9. The complainant said the men pointed a weapon at the child and then gang-raped his wife.
The woman told police that she had initially stayed silent out of fear of social stigma. However, she came forward after the suspects allegedly uploaded a video of the assault on social media on Aug 22.
A police spokesperson confirmed that an FIR had been registered at Mahmood Kot Police Station after recording the woman’s initial statement, adding that raids were under way to arrest the suspects, who are currently in hiding. The spokesperson said facts would be verified following forensic examination of the video evidence.

The case comes amid a spate of sexual violence incidents across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent months. In June, a woman was allegedly gang-raped in Hafizabad in front of her husband, with suspects forcing the couple at gunpoint to engage in intercourse, filming the act and later releasing the footage. The victim’s husband registered the case only after the video surfaced online.
In another incident earlier this month, a 21-year-old man in Haripur was allegedly gang-raped and robbed after being lured into a meeting by a woman he had befriended on Facebook. Police said the man was ambushed by three armed suspects, who assaulted him at knifepoint, filmed the attack and looted cash and valuables.
