Sindh madrasas reports 612 child abuse cases in 8 months, Senate body told

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights was presented with alarming statistics on Friday, revealing that incidents of child abuse and violence in madrasas across the country have not decreased.

According to official documents, 17 cases of violence against children were reported from Punjab’s madrasas during the first eight months of this year. Sargodha district topped the list for madrasa violence cases.

The documents further showed that 64 cases of sexual abuse of children were registered across 14 districts of Punjab. Lahore recorded the highest number of such incidents, with 21 cases reported from different madrasas.

Cases of violence and abuse were also reported from Muzaffargarh, Khanewal, Faisalabad, and Gujrat.

In Sindh, 612 cases of violence and abuse against children were registered over the past eight months. However, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government did not present any report of violence or abuse in madrasas.

The documents added that several suspects have been arrested in different cases, while investigations are currently under way.
