ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s T20 vice-captain Shadab Khan and his wife Malaika were blessed with their first child, a baby girl, on Saturday, sparking celebrations in the family and among the cricketing fraternity.

The all-rounder announced the news on Instagram, sharing a collage featuring a family photograph with the newborn as well as a close-up of the baby’s tiny foot cradled in her parents’ hands.

“Alhamdulillah, Allah has blessed us with our first child, a beautiful daughter,” Shadab Khan wrote. “Grateful beyond words for this blessing. Please keep us in your duas as we begin this new journey.”

Former Pakistan coach and spin legend Saqlain Mushtaq — the new grandfather — also expressed his joy on social media, writing: “The biggest blessing has arrived — Alhamdulillah, I’m officially a Grandad! My heart is fuller than ever, and I can’t wait for all the cuddles, stories, and adventures ahead.”

Soon after the announcement, fellow players and fans extended warm wishes to Shadab, who has been admired for his energetic presence on the field and his humility off it.

Shadab and Malaika tied the knot in a private nikah ceremony in 2023. At the time, the cricketer had requested privacy, calling it the beginning of a “new chapter” and seeking prayers from fans.
