YouTuber Rajab Butt has temporarily stepped away from vlogging and has reportedly left the country following a wave of controversy and legal proceedings linked to allegations of blasphemy.
The social media personality, who enjoys a sizable following on YouTube and TikTok, is facing accusations of disrespecting Islamic figures in his content. A petition in this regard has reportedly been filed with the Lahore High Court.
During a recent live session on TikTok, Butt did not disclose his exact location but alluded to being abroad by referencing the time difference between Pakistan and Dubai. He confirmed that while he is taking a break from uploading new vlogs, he will continue to appear live on TikTok.
“I’m not quitting vlogging forever,” he said. “I’ll return once the situation settles.” He added that he would not upload new videos without the consent of his mother, who was reportedly distressed by the developments and personally saw him off at the airport, citing concerns for his safety.
Butt also revealed he has recorded several videos explaining his stance, which he intends to release at a later date.
The latest development comes just a day after unidentified gunmen opened fire on his residence in the Chahong area of Lahore. According to his brother-in-law, six gunshots were fired, though no injuries were reported as the house was unoccupied at the time. Butt had already left the country by then.
Earlier this year, the YouTuber faced criticism and legal scrutiny for launching a perfume named ‘295’, a reference many interpreted as alluding to Pakistan’s blasphemy law under Section 295 of the Penal Code. The move drew sharp backlash on social media and from religious circles, prompting calls for action.
