ISLAMABAD: Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) officers have expressed serious concerns over the death of SP Industrial Area Adeel Akbar, who was found dead with a gunshot wound earlier this week. In this regard, senior and junior PSP officers have written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif through the Secretary Establishment Division, seeking an impartial and transparent investigation.

According to sources, the letter raised questions about the inquiry committee formed to probe Adeel Akbar’s death. The officers expressed reservations over the inclusion of only Islamabad-based DIGs in the investigation team.

The PSP officers demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure a transparent and unbiased probe. They proposed that the SIT should comprise senior, competent officers who are not currently posted in Islamabad, and that its head be a senior official from another province or federal agency.

In their letter, the officers appealed to the Prime Minister to personally oversee the matter and ensure that the investigation remains free from all political or departmental influence. They further urged that the Ministry of Interior be directed to issue a deadline for the SIT to complete its inquiry and submit a fact-based, transparent report.

On October 23, SP I-9 Adeel Akbar was found dead in his vehicle on Constitution Avenue. According to a police spokesperson, he was traveling toward his office when he was fatally shot inside his car.

However, some sources claimed that Adeel Akbar allegedly took his own life after a heated phone conversation. They stated that, in anger, he took out his staff weapon and shot himself.

The incident has triggered widespread concern within police circles, with fellow officers demanding a thorough and independent investigation to uncover the truth behind Adeel Akbar’s death.
