ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday announced the “Roshan Maeeshat Bijli Package,” offering industrial and agricultural consumers additional electricity at reduced rates for three years to stimulate economic growth.
Under the package, which will take effect from November 2025 to October 2028, industrial and agricultural consumers will receive additional electricity at a rate of Rs22.98 per unit.
The initiative is aimed at lowering production costs and reviving economic activity in sectors that have been struggling with high energy prices, leading to reduced output, inflationary pressures, and limited job creation.
Shehbaz made the announcement while chairing a meeting with experts from the industrial and agricultural sectors as well as representatives from the business community in Islamabad.
He said the government would ensure an uninterrupted power supply at affordable rates throughout the year, made possible by the country’s excess generation capacity and declining electricity demand due to an increasing shift toward solar energy.
Highlighting the imbalance in national consumption trends, Shehbaz noted that domestic consumers currently use more electricity than the industrial sector. He said the declining consumption had increased capacity charges for consumers, pushing many to adopt solar alternatives.
The prime minister clarified that the “Roshan Maeeshat Bijli Package” would not shift any financial burden to domestic or other consumer categories.
He praised Power Minister Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari and his team for designing the package, adding that the industrial and agricultural sectors form the backbone of Pakistan’s economy by driving growth and creating employment opportunities.
