ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Jordan on Saturday signed four landmark documents aimed at strengthening cultural, academic and media cooperation, coinciding with the arrival of Jordan’s King Abdullah II on a two-day official visit.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and senior government officials welcomed the Jordanian monarch upon his arrival at Nur Khan Airbase.
During high-level talks later in the evening, both countries signed a Programme for Cultural Cooperation, laying the groundwork for enhanced people-to-people exchanges, joint cultural initiatives, academic linkages and heritage preservation efforts.

A significant academic development came with the signing of an MoU to establish a Chair in Urdu and Pakistan Studies at the University of Jordan. The agreement—finalised in the presence of Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi—aims to promote the Urdu language and expand scholarly research on Pakistan’s history, society and culture.
In the media sector, two major cooperation agreements were concluded to strengthen collaboration between state broadcasters.

The first agreement, between Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) and the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation (JRTV), focuses on content exchange, training and co-production opportunities.
A second agreement between the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) and JRTV will expand cooperation in radio broadcasting, including programme sharing, professional training and technological support.
Officials said the agreements demonstrate the shared commitment of Pakistan and Jordan to deepen bilateral relations while expanding cooperation across cultural, educational and media spheres.
