Pakistan extends airspace ban on Indian aircraft until August 23

Pakistan has extended its airspace restrictions for Indian-registered aircraft by another month, with the ban now in effect until August 23, according to an official Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Pakistan Airport Authority.

The NOTAM confirms the continued prohibition of overflights and transit operations for all Indian-registered aircraft, with no exemptions granted. The decision marks the fourth consecutive extension of the airspace closure since the ban was first implemented on April 23.

The restrictions came in response to India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, a move that escalated tensions following the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) earlier this year.

Subsequent cross-border strikes by India and Pakistan led to the martyrdom of several Pakistani nationals, prompting a retaliatory response from Islamabad. The heightened hostilities ultimately drew international mediation, including from the United States, resulting in a temporary ceasefire.

“The ban remains in effect until further notice,” the NOTAM stated, reiterating that all aircraft registered in India are barred from utilizing Pakistani airspace for any purpose, including commercial and cargo operations.
