Pakistan and Canada have agreed to strengthen collaboration in the field of agriculture, focusing on innovation, productivity, and food security. The understanding was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain and Canadian High Commissioner Tariq Ali Khan, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding agricultural cooperation.
Discussions centered on enhancing partnership in hybrid seed development, livestock breeding, and feed formulation, with a view to improving efficiency and sustainability in Pakistan’s agricultural sector. The federal minister also proposed joint ventures for the local manufacturing of agricultural machinery, aimed at reducing dependency on imports and boosting domestic production capacity.

Highlighting the potential of canola cultivation, Rana Tanveer Hussain noted that it could bring innovation to agricultural practices, increase farmers’ income, and improve access to global markets.
Both sides agreed to form a Joint Working Group to strengthen collaboration on certification standards, market access, and technical cooperation, ensuring a structured framework for long-term engagement.
The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) continues to play a vital role in promoting modernization and growth in the agriculture sector. Its effective policies have helped build investor confidence, attracting foreign investment and contributing to the overall stability of Pakistan’s economy.
