ISLAMABAD: Afghan forces on Saturday opened unprovoked fire at multiple locations along the Pak-Afghan border, prompting a strong and immediate response from Pakistan Army, security sources said.
According to officials, the firing targeted border areas including Angoor Adda, Bajaur, Kurram, Dir, Chitral, and Baramcha in Balochistan. The incident, they said, was aimed at facilitating the movement of militants across the border.
Pakistan Army posts, described as alert and fully prepared, retaliated swiftly and effectively, and the exchange of fire was still ongoing, the sources added.
In the immediate response, several Afghan border posts were reportedly destroyed while dozens of Afghan soldiers and militants were killed. Taliban personnel were said to have abandoned multiple positions, leaving behind bodies scattered in the area, officials claimed.
