ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has issued a clarification regarding recent reports about changes in Pakistani passports, confirming that the new passports will now include the mother’s name along with the father’s.
According to the Immigration department, the redesigned passports will feature enhanced modern security features and new visa pages printed with images of historical landmarks from all four provinces. The printing of the new passport booklets is currently underway at the Pakistan Security Printing Corporation following approval from the Ministry of Interior.
Officials stated that the updates are part of efforts to bring innovation and uniformity to the passport system. However, apart from these technological and design enhancements, no changes are being made to the passport type, color, or basic structure.
Earlier, social media reports claimed that the government had decided to completely change the color and design of public, official, and diplomatic passports. The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports clarified that these reports were misleading, emphasizing that only feature upgrades and design improvements were approved.
