ISLAMABAD: A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan late on Thursday, with tremors felt across several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as Rawalpindi and Islamabad, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The quake, recorded at 21:56 PST, had a depth of 111 kilometres and was centred at latitude 35.12°N and longitude 70.71°E. Strong but brief tremors were reported in Peshawar, Mansehra, Hangu, Abbottabad, Swat, Attock, Malakand, Rawalpindi and the federal capital.
No casualties or damage were reported till the filing of this report.
