KARACHI: The University of Karachi (KU) has announced that all classes and examinations scheduled for today, March 2, have been suspended in solidarity with the victims of recent attacks in Iran.

According to a notification issued by the varsity’s registrar, all teaching and academic activities will remain halted throughout the day to pay tribute to those killed, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as well as more than 200 civilians who lost their lives in the strikes.

All examinations scheduled for March 2 have been postponed, with the university stating that new dates will be announced in due course. The registrar urged students and staff to observe the day in respect and solidarity with the victims.

Iranian authorities confirmed early Sunday that Khamenei was killed in joint Israeli and US air strikes that began on February 28. In response, Tehran declared 40 days of public mourning, according to state media.

The announcement also included seven days of official public holidays, the Fars News Agency reported.

Following Khamenei’s death, President Masoud Pezeshkian and two other senior officials are set to lead the country during the transitional period, state television said.

The United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iran, triggering a renewed regional confrontation as US President Donald Trump pledged to dismantle Tehran’s missile arsenal and prevent it from developing nuclear weapons.

Tehran responded with a sweeping barrage of missiles targeting Gulf states and Israel, marking a sharp escalation in hostilities across the region.
