ISLAMABAD: The inaugural session of the 11th National Finance Commission (NFC), originally scheduled for August 29, has been postponed due to the worsening flood situation in Punjab and Sindh, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The session was deferred at the request of the Sindh government, which cited the ongoing emergency in flood-hit areas.
According to sources, the agenda had included discussions on recommendations for the NFC Award, the formation of sub-groups, and the schedule of future sessions, as well as briefings from federal and provincial governments on their respective financial situations.
The postponement comes after President Asif Ali Zardari approved the notification for the constitution of the 11th NFC on August 22, with the federal finance minister as chairman and the provincial finance ministers and nominated members as part of the commission.

The commission comprises nine members, including Punjab’s representative Nasir Mahmood Khosa, Sindh’s Dr Asad Sayeed, KP’s Dr Musharraf Rasool, and Balochistan’s Farmanullah.
Last week, President Zardari formally constituted the body under Article 160(1) of the Constitution.
In June, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced that the NFC Award would be reviewed, noting that it had been 15 years since the last award. Addressing a Jirga in Peshawar, he acknowledged KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s demand for a long-overdue reassessment.
