Imran, Bushra granted bail in Toshakhana fake receipt case

ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad court on Tuesday granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana fake receipt case, observing that the prosecution failed to present substantive evidence against them.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majuka approved their bail pleas against surety bonds of Rs50,000 each.

According to the FIR, the couple was accused of committing fraud by presenting a fake receipt that allegedly indicated the sale of gifts — including watches and cufflinks — obtained from Toshakhana through forged signatures.

During proceedings, Judge Majuka remarked that the prosecution had not produced sufficient material to substantiate the allegations.

The court also granted bail to the PTI founder in five additional cases, including those related to attempted murder and defaming the army, subject to surety bonds of Rs50,000 in each case.

In the case pertaining to alleged defamation of the army, the court ruled that no material had been placed on record to establish that the petitioner committed the offence.

The FIR stated that Manzoor Ahmad, described as a learned magistrate, along with his officials, was watching a private news channel when Imran allegedly levelled accusations against army officers, claiming they wanted to see him defeated and killed.

The complainant alleged that the petitioner used derogatory language against senior army officials, creating unrest in society and using inappropriate remarks against the top military brass.

Regarding the attempted murder case linked to protests, the court observed that the prosecution failed to demonstrate that the demonstrations were organised under the PTI founder’s direction or that he was present at the protest sites.

Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023 and faces multiple cases ranging from corruption to terrorism following his removal from office through a no-confidence motion in April 2022.
