ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi on Monday confirmed the return of a Pakistani national who had been imprisoned in India.
The individual, identified as Raqib Bilal, was repatriated through the Attari-Wagah border crossing, the mission said in a post on X.
The high commission reiterated its commitment to securing the release of all Pakistanis held in Indian jails, saying it would “continue to make every effort for the repatriation of all Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails”.
According to a prisoner list shared by India in July, there are currently 463 Pakistani or believed-to-be-Pakistani nationals in Indian custody, including 382 civilian prisoners and 81 fishermen.
Under the 2008 Agreement on Consular Access, Pakistan and India exchange lists of detainees held in each other’s prisons twice a year — on January 1 and July 1.

In July, Pakistan had called for the immediate release of all confirmed Pakistani prisoners and fishermen who had completed their sentences. It also sought special consular access to verify the nationality of others believed to be Pakistani.
During the same exchange, Pakistan provided India with a list of 246 Indian or believed-to-be-Indian detainees — 53 civilians and 193 fishermen — currently in its custody.
