SAN FRANCISCO: Google on Wednesday unveiled its latest flagship smartphones — the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL — with the company emphasising deeper integration of artificial intelligence through its new Tensor G5 chip and Gemini Nano model.

The Pixel 10 Pro XL, the top variant in the series, introduces a refined design with sustainable materials and a 6.8-inch Super Actua display. It also supports Qi2.2 wireless charging at 25W. The handset is offered in Obsidian, Porcelain, Moonstone and Jade finishes, and comes with 16GB RAM, faster wired charging, and upgraded speakers. Google has confirmed seven years of operating system and security updates.

While the camera hardware remains largely unchanged from last year, Google is introducing “Pro Res Zoom” — an AI-based system exclusive to the Pro models, capable of zooming up to 100x. Early tests suggest sharper detail at long distances, though processing times remain around 10 seconds. The standard Pixel 10 offers a 5x telephoto lens with zoom capped at 20x, without the advanced AI features.

On the software side, the Tensor G5 chip enables new functions such as “Magic Cue”, which can surface information during calls or messages, and “Camera Coach”, an AI tool designed to assist users with framing and composition.

The Pixel 10 series will be available from August 28, with preorders now open. Prices start at $799 for the Pixel 10, $999 for the Pixel 10 Pro and $1,199 for the Pro XL. Buyers of the Pro models will also receive a one-year subscription to Google AI Pro.

Analysts note that the Pixel 10 Pro XL marks Google’s first significant attempt to challenge Samsung’s Galaxy Ultra series in the long-range zoom segment, combining hardware stability with AI-driven imaging.
