GB govt helicopter crashes near Chilas

GILGIT: A Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government helicopter crashed near Chilas on Sunday after developing a technical fault, confirmed GB government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq.

According to the spokesperson, the aircraft went down while attempting to land.

Crew members on board

Two pilots and two technical staff members were present in the helicopter at the time of the incident. However, the number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.

CM expresses regret

Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister expressed deep regret over the accident and directed authorities to immediately reach the site. District administration and other officials were dispatched following his instructions, Faraq said.

Senior officials, locals at site

The Frontier Corps Northern Areas (FCN) commander, DG Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, Commissioner Diamer, and a large number of locals have already arrived at the site. Efforts are currently under way to extinguish the fire from the wreckage, the spokesperson added.

Previous incident in Mohmand

It may be recalled that on August 15, a government helicopter had crashed during relief operations in Mohmand district, leading to the martyrdom of two pilots and five crew members.
