RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Friday visited the flood-affected areas of Punjab, including Sialkot sector, Shakargarh, Narowal and Kartarpur, to review the situation and ongoing rescue and relief operations.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief was briefed on the prevailing flood situation and preparations for the expected spell of rains. He commended the tireless efforts of troops and the civil administration in providing relief to the affected population.
During his visit to Kartarpur, Field Marshal Munir interacted with the flood-hit Sikh community and assured them that all damaged religious sites, including the historic Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, would be restored on a priority basis.
“Protection of minorities and their religious places is the state’s foremost responsibility. Pakistan will spare no effort in fulfilling this duty,” the COAS was quoted as saying.
The Sikh community warmly welcomed the army chief and expressed gratitude to the army and civil administration for their assistance during the floods.
The army chief also conducted an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas to personally assess the damage and relief efforts. He praised the proactive response of the civil administration, which helped minimise losses, and lauded the high morale and dedication of troops working in challenging conditions.
Earlier, Field Marshal Munir was received by the Gujranwala Corps Commander on his arrival in the area.
