MUNICH: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), held talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Saturday on the sidelines of the 62nd Munich Security Conference.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting covered matters of mutual interest, including evolving regional and global security dynamics as well as cooperation in counterterrorism measures.
The army chief visited Germany from February 12 to 14 to participate in engagements linked to the annual security forum.
During his visit, Field Marshal Munir also interacted with German authorities and military leaders from Brazil and Lebanon, focusing on contemporary security issues, bilateral defence cooperation and the importance of promoting peace and stability through dialogue at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
As part of his engagements with German officials, the COAS and CDF called on Alexander Dobrindt, Federal Minister of the Interior, Günter Sautter, Foreign Policy and Security Policy Advisor to the German Federal Chancellor, and General Carsten Breuer, Chief of Defence of the Federal Armed Forces.
ISPR said these meetings centred on modern security challenges, strengthening defence collaboration and advancing global peace efforts.
Field Marshal Munir also held discussions with Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces, where both sides explored avenues for enhancing bilateral military cooperation.
Additionally, General Rodolph Haykal, Commander of the Armed Forces of Lebanon, called on the COAS. The interaction included an exchange of views on the regional and global security situation and measures to further strengthen defence ties between the two countries.
The ISPR noted that the engagements reflect Pakistan’s continued commitment to constructive international dialogue on peace, stability and counterterrorism cooperation.
