ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to amend the Local Government Act 2015, sources said on Friday, adding that consultations will be held with allied parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), before finalising the changes.
The sources indicated that a Local Government Act ordinance could be issued soon to formalise the amendments.
According to the proposed plan, three Town Corporations will be established at the level of three National Assembly constituencies. Each Town Corporation will have one Mayor and two Deputy Mayors.
The number of Union Councils in each Town Corporation will be determined by the federal government. Each Union Council is expected to comprise nine general councillors along with four reserved seats.
The tenure of the Town Corporations will be four years, the sources added.
