Dr Usman Anwar appointed FIA DG, Rao Abdul Kareem named Punjab IG

ISLAMABAD: Former Punjab police chief Dr Usman Anwar has been appointed as the new Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), while Rao Abdul Kareem has been posted as the Inspector General of Punjab, officials confirmed on Friday.

According to official notifications, the appointments were made following earlier speculations regarding key administrative reshuffles in the country’s law enforcement leadership.

Dr Usman Anwar has served in several senior positions during his career. His previous roles include additional inspector general of the Special Branch, director of FIA Lahore, and district police officer of Okara and Sargodha.

Meanwhile, Rao Abdul Kareem brings nearly three decades of experience in policing. He joined the Police Service of Pakistan in 1996 through the Central Superior Services examination and has served in various key field and command positions.

His past postings include superintendent of police in Lahore and district police officer in Mianwali, Kasur, and Jhang, providing him with extensive experience in both urban and rural law enforcement.

Both appointments take effect immediately.
