KARACHI: Pakistan Customs at Jinnah International Airport successfully foiled two major attempts to smuggle drugs into the country through the International Mail Office, seizing narcotics valued at Rs114 million.

In the first case, officials recovered 1.69 kilograms of marijuana worth Rs52 million from a parcel declared as containing amulets that had arrived from Thailand.

In a separate operation, Customs intercepted a shipment from Belgium, discovering 1,945 MDMA (Ecstasy) pills worth Rs62 million hidden inside a vacuum cleaner.

Authorities said the rise in global e-commerce has increased the flow of international parcels, providing opportunities for criminal networks to exploit the mail system for drug trafficking.

Pakistan Customs emphasized that its officers remain vigilant against all forms of narcotics smuggling, adding that their continued effective performance has helped prevent harmful substances from reaching local communities.
