A Balochistan Constabulary officer was martyred and two others sustained injuries on Friday in an armed attack on a police vehicle in Mastung district, according to local officials.
The incident occurred on the National Highway as the vehicle was travelling from Kalat to Quetta. Police officials said unidentified assailants opened fire near Mastung, targeting the mobile unit.
SHO Rauf Shahwani confirmed the casualties and said that the injured personnel were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. A search operation has been launched in the area to trace and apprehend the attackers, he added.
The attack was widely condemned by the federal and provincial leadership.
In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and offered condolences to the bereaved families. He prayed for the departed soul and the swift recovery of the injured.
“Terrorists seeking to harm the country’s integrity will fail in their evil designs,” said the premier. He reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicate terrorism and directed authorities to ensure urgent medical assistance for those injured.
The Balochistan government also denounced the incident. Spokesperson Shahid Rind said that the vehicle was specifically targeted by militants. “This attack will not weaken our resolve. The fight against terrorism will continue,” he said.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and further investigations are underway.
