LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday sent Shershah Khan — nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and son of Aleema Khan — on a 14-day judicial remand in a case linked to the May 9 riots.
Shershah was arrested on August 22, a day after the detention of Imran’s other nephew, Shahrez Khan, in connection with the attack on Jinnah House in Lahore, one of the most high-profile incidents of the May 9 violence.
The ATC had earlier granted police a five-day physical remand, which expired on Thursday. During the hearing, police sought a 30-day extension, citing video evidence allegedly showing Shershah alongside Hassan Niazi, another nephew of the jailed PTI founder, during the riots.
However, Shershah’s counsel, Salman Akram Raja, argued that mere presence in a video could not establish culpability.
After hearing arguments, ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gill dismissed the police plea and sent Shershah on judicial remand, ordering his transfer to jail.

Both Shershah and Shahrez face charges of arson, vandalism, torching a police van, and running an anti-state campaign. Sources claim Shershah fled abroad after the riots, spending nearly two years in London before returning to Pakistan, where he was arrested last week.
The May 9 riots erupted nationwide following Imran Khan’s arrest in a corruption case, with attacks on state and military installations. The attack on Jinnah House — the residence of the Lahore Corps Commander — remains a focal point of ongoing prosecutions.
