LAHORE: Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi has been selected for the prestigious Asia 21 Next Generation Fellowship, becoming the first female police officer from Pakistan to achieve the distinction.

The announcement was made after the Asia Society unveiled its Class of 2025, which recognises emerging leaders across the region for their commitment to social impact and systemic change. A Punjab Police spokesperson confirmed the development on Saturday.

Shehrbano Naqvi was chosen for her efforts to protect vulnerable communities and reform policing practices in Pakistan. She will join 30 fellows representing 27 countries at the Asia 21 Next Generation Summit, scheduled to be held in Manila, Philippines, from Dec 5 to 7, 2025.

The fellowship provides a platform for young leaders to present solutions to pressing regional challenges and foster cross-border collaboration.

Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar congratulated ASP Naqvi, terming her selection “a proud moment for both Pakistan and the Punjab Police.” He said her achievement not only brought international recognition to the force but also highlighted the growing role of women in law enforcement.

Naqvi first gained prominence in March 2024 after she intervened to rescue a woman attacked by a mob in Lahore’s Ichhra area. For her bravery, she was awarded the Quaid-i-Azam medal for valour and subsequently entrusted with key appointments within the police force, which she has fulfilled with distinction.

Her induction into the Asia 21 network is being seen as a significant step in advancing Pakistan’s representation in global leadership circles.
