DUBAI: India defeated Pakistan by six wickets in their Super Fours encounter at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, successfully chasing down a 172-run target with seven balls to spare.

Chasing 172, India’s openers Abhishek and Shubman Gill provided a blistering start with a 105-run stand in just 10 overs. Gill scored 47 off 28 balls before falling to Faheem Ashraf, while Sharma top-scored with a blistering 74 from 39 deliveries, hitting six fours and five sixes.

Despite quick breakthroughs by Haris Rauf and Abrar Ahmed, who reduced India to 123/3, Tilak Varma (30* off 19) guided his side home alongside Hardik Pandya (7*). Haris was the pick of Pakistan’s bowlers with 2/26.

Earlier, Pakistan posted 171/5 after being put into bat. Farhan anchored the innings with a solid 58 off 45 balls, featuring five fours and three sixes. He shared a 72-run partnership with Saim Ayub (21) before falling to Shivam Dube. Contributions from Mohammad Nawaz (21) and Faheem Ashraf (20* off 8) boosted the total late in the innings.

For India, Dube claimed 2/32, while Kuldeep Yadav and Pandya took one wicket apiece.

The result leaves Pakistan under pressure as India strengthened their position in the Super Fours stage.
