Shehbaz and Saudi Crown Prince discuss Islamabad peace deal and bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Friday, during which the two leaders discussed the recently signed Islamabad Peace Deal and broader bilateral relations.

According to an official statement, the conversation between the two leaders was warm and cordial, with the prime minister congratulating the crown prince on what he described as the historic signing of the agreement.

The prime minister expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s continued support for Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and praised the crown prince for his leadership during what he termed a critical regional crisis.

He said the peace agreement between Iran and the United States was made possible due to the strong backing of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in response, congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and praised the efforts of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, which he said contributed to the successful conclusion of the agreement.

Both leaders agreed that the next phase of negotiations between Iran and the United States should proceed smoothly, stressing the importance of resolving outstanding issues through dialogue and diplomacy. They also emphasised the need to remain vigilant against any attempts to derail the process.

During the call, the two sides expressed satisfaction over the state of Pakistan–Saudi Arabia relations and discussed plans to finalise a comprehensive economic package under the patronage of the Saudi crown prince.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his invitation to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient time, while also conveying his regards to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The two leaders agreed to maintain close coordination in the coming days as regional diplomatic developments continue to unfold.
